A cuvée made from Riesling supplied by a friend in Alsace. Although the details are undisclosed, the grapes come from a Grand Cru vineyard in northern Alsace. Ripe, rich fruit character with a well-balanced interplay of acidity and minerality. Unlike the typical Riesling wines made by producers in Alsace, this one carries Frédéric Cossard’s signature style—fresh and vibrant.

Under INAO regulations, wines made in Burgundy from Riesling cannot display the grape variety on the label. As a workaround, Frédéric Cossard came up with the name “Rafling.” The word “Rafling” means “raffle” or “lottery” in Danish—a witty wordplay combining it with “Riesling.”

Despite a chaotic year 2020 at all levels, the weather spared us from troubles and the vines behaved very well. All the components were perfect to be a great vintage. The winter was mild, the spring quite warm. Daytime was warm, nighttime was cold. This healthy cycle of climate eased us to manage the vineyards(although these cold nights during the bloom squeezed the yield on the whites).

Côte de Nuits was much more affected by weather conditions (drought) than the Côte de Beaune during the summer. We saw burnt phenomena (the sun burns grapes), therefore yield is relatively lower than Cote de Beaune which had sufficient rain.

But the harvest was satisfactory as a result, red is riper than 2019. This is a great vintage for both white and red, there was no fermentation problems for the reds with good extractions requiring very little crushing. The whites have continued fermentation until today(Mid Jan 2021).

Nuits Saint Georges blanc Aux Croix rouges :
Vinified in egg-shaped tank.

Santenay 1er Cru Passetemps :
An appellation situated in the south of Côte de Beaune. This plot has been organic for over 30 years, the wines produced are fine and elegant.

Riesling :
Riesling is a Laure's favourite grape variety. From a domaine that has practiced biodynamics in Alsace for 25 years. We made an egg-tank cuvée and a Skin Contact cuvée.
