JS94

A full-bodied wine with firm tannins and lots of dark cherry and berry character. Solid core of fruit with a silky finish. Very fine. : Barrel Sample (JamesSuckling)

WS92

Lovely, with a caressing feel that lets alluring notes of raspberry, boysenberry and red currant preserves glide through, picking up red licorice, black tea and singed allspice accents along the way. The long, refined finish has a beautiful iron echo. Best from 2020 through 2035. (WineSpectator)

WS91-94

Rock-solid, with dark red and black currant fruit, raspberry pâte de fruit and plum sauce notes, all carried by lightly tarry grip. Shows a nice tug of earth at the very end, matching the dense fruit.—Tasted non-blind. (WineSpectator)

WE91

Barrel Sample. This wine is rich and perfumed on the nose. A firm tannic background on the palate melds into fresh blackberry fruit intensity, providing enough concentration to sustain medium-term aging. (WineEnthusiast)

RP90

The Château La Grave-à-Pomerol 2014 has a well-defined, sous bois-driven, tertiary bouquet that takes a couple of minutes to really coalesce. There is a slight lack of aromatic "presence" here. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannin, a light La Grave-à-Pomerol but one that is well balanced, harmonious and for want of a better word, honest. It will not blow your socks off, but you'll glug this Pomerol down happily over the next decade or so.

The 2014 La Grave a Pomerol conveys an almost comforting sense of warmth and homeliness on the nose. It is not complex or intense, yet it is very well defined and offers a beguiling fireside hearth/burning embers scent that infuses the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a slight toastiness on the entry. It is well balanced with a sense of roundness and softness, yet it is not flabby in any way, just a Pomerol that welcomes you with arms open wide. (RobertParker.com)

A lovely estate situated on the western side of the plateau of Pomerol, Château La Grave dates back to the 19th century, when it was owned by the Trigant de Boisset family. As its name indicates, the terroir of Château La Grave is almost pure gravel, marking the beginning of a mile-long gravelly strip that continues into Saint-Émilion, passing through Château Cheval Blanc before ending at Château Figeac.

Acquired by Christian Moueix in 1971, Château La Grave was his first vineyard purchase. A great deal of attention was given to the renovation of the vineyard, château, and cellar in order to restore the wine’s place among the top wines of Pomerol.

An elegant, delicate, charming wine, the gravelly soils of La Grave offer poise and linearity, while the ripe, red fruit and characteristic silky texture make the wine approachable and enjoyable, even in its youth. (Moueix home page)
