Panevino means "bread - wine" in Italy. This name originates from Gianfranco Manca's profession that he is wine-maker and baker(though he spends most of the time for wine today). He took over bakery from his uncle and has baked classic Sardinian breads. Besides small land with 30 different kinds of local grape varieties and many very old vines(over 100 years old) had remained in the family. This vineyard had been abandoned for a while, but Gianfranco had realised the potential of the vineyard and began to restore the vineyard, and wine production was revived in mid 80's. Those wines had been consumed in his family and local area for long time, and then finally he decided to release his wine to the out side from 2004 vintage.

He talks with vines and vines tell him what they want. The vineyard is maintained totally natural. Herbicides and pesticides are not used at all. Only tiny volume of sulphur is applied to the vineyard to prevent mildew if necessary, once a year or nothing. Vinification is also totally free from chemicals. Gianfranco Manca thinks that every wines have different personalities, so he often gives his wine different label and name every year.
