[Mature Bottle Release] Pinot Noirs from Paris l’Hôpital in Haute Côte de Beaune of dark sandy Granit. Floral with bouquets of dark red fruits. Fine tannins with racy acidity. Complex and structured. A very elegant and charming Haute Côte impresses with its scale and performs well above its humble appellation and it well matches a good village or even some 1er cru. The 2023 vintage wines from Domaine de Chassorney each have their own highlights and are all enjoyable, but this Sous la Velle stands out as quite a masterpiece among the series. Sous la Velle is located 380m above sea level, right next to Sous Roche. Like the other wines in this series, the fruit is rich and full-bodied, but the texture is smooth and transparent, with acidity and minerals accentuating the wine’s dimensionality and the clarity of its outlines. It is a typical excellent wine from a great vintage. Like En Carran, this one is also produced only in magnum size. Production exclusively in magnum size has been continued by Aurélien Verdet as well. It exhibits the expected delicate yet deeply flavourful style, but the well-ripened 2023 vintage prominently features nuances of strawberry jam (or rather, it is exactly that), making it enjoyable right from the moment it is opened. It is a truly pleasant wine to drink, and although it goes down smoothly, the magnum size means there is plenty, so you can drink freely without being stingy. That said, it is not a wine for gulping. This astonishingly high-quality AC Bourgogne Pinot Noir is not cheap, but its price is by no means ridiculous. This cuvée is composed by 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay, from the Grands Crus Bouzy and Ambonnay. Dégorgement : Feb 2024 [Mature Bottle Release] This is another Saint Romain from Frédéric et Laure Cossard. Needless to say, Saint-Romain is their home ground. Sous la Velle is located 380m above sea level, just next to Sous Roche. The wine has good minerality and pure fruit. Frédéric et Laure Cossard have specially bottled this cuvée only in magnum. Boasting a deep purple/plum color to go with thrilling notes of tobacco leaf, currants, licorice, and subtle oak, it has a multi-dimensional, layered, elegant, and full-bodied style on the palate that just begs to be drunk. Nevertheless, it needs 5-6 years of cellaring and will keep for 2+ decades. It’s a sensational wine! JD97,WS95-98,95,RP96 [JEAN-PIERRE MOUEIX Vineyards] [1 magnum OWC] The 2014 La Fleur Petrus is impressive out of barrel and it continues to evince quality now in bottle. It has a lovely, engaging bouquet with vivacious redcurrant and cranberry fruit, superb mineralité and energy, real focus and a sense of drive in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a sense of symmetry and poise from start to finish. It has perhaps turned into a slightly more elegant and feminine wine than I anticipated, less bullish than the Hosanna. But there is real complexity on the finish with black pepper and clove lingering on the aftertaste. This is superb. The selection of the best grapes has been harvested at the end of September and fermented in large Georgian amphores for about 10 months, half of the period on the skins. This is the first wine elevated for 6 years in oak barrels and bottled only in magnums(1500ml) in 2010, and aged for 7 more years in the bottle before release.
