Needless to say, Saint-Romain is their home ground. Sous la Velle is located 380m above sea level, just next to Sous Roche. The wine has good minerality and pure fruit. Frédéric et Laure Cossard have specially bottled this cuvée only in magnum. In fact, we purchased this cuvée six years ago, but we have never sold it while it has been cellared in Burgundy, making this its first release. This special cuvée is bottled only in magnum format. It is made from Pinot Noir sourced from a tiny parcel in Saint-Romain that is the home ground of Frédéric and Laure Cossard. Characterized by floral notes and lovely red berries, the wine is extremely pure, lively, and silky, which embodies the full style we appreciate from Frédéric and Laure Cossard. While it has been delicious since the beginning, the wine has now reached its peak. Paiagallo is Giovanni Canonica's original vineyard. Gianni produces stunning Barolo from this vineyard. All practices are traditional and natural in the vineyards and cellar. The vineyard is totally free from herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers. The wine undergoes 40 days of maceration, using only indigenous yeasts without any additives, is pressed vertically, and is then aged in 20hl Slavonian oak barrels. Boasting a deep purple/plum color to go with thrilling notes of tobacco leaf, currants, licorice, and subtle oak, it has a multi-dimensional, layered, elegant, and full-bodied style on the palate that just begs to be drunk. Nevertheless, it needs 5-6 years of cellaring and will keep for 2+ decades. It’s a sensational wine! JD97,WS95-98,95,RP96 [JEAN-PIERRE MOUEIX Vineyards] [1 magnum OWC] The 2014 La Fleur Petrus is impressive out of barrel and it continues to evince quality now in bottle. It has a lovely, engaging bouquet with vivacious redcurrant and cranberry fruit, superb mineralité and energy, real focus and a sense of drive in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a sense of symmetry and poise from start to finish. It has perhaps turned into a slightly more elegant and feminine wine than I anticipated, less bullish than the Hosanna. But there is real complexity on the finish with black pepper and clove lingering on the aftertaste. This is superb. Medium-bodied, it completely fills the palate with vibrant red and black fruit layers, framed by a firm backbone of grainy tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing long and perfumed. RP97+, WS95-98 [JEAN-PIERRE MOUEIX Vineyards] [1 magnum OWC] Composed of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Belair Monange has the most singular nose of grilled meats, smoked game, iron ore and fallen leaves over a slowly unfurling ripe fruit core of crushed black plums, blackberry preserves and cassis with fragrant touches of star anise and potpourri. Full-bodied, rich and opulent in the mouth, the palate reveals an arresting backbone of exquisitely ripe, very firm tannins and sparks of background acidity lifting and defining the rich, densely packed layers, culminating in an epically long and multifaceted finish. WE96,WS95,94-97,RP92 [JEAN-PIERRE MOUEIX Vineyards] 2016 Latour à Pomerol is a little reticent to begin, unfolding slowly to give glimpses of warm redcurrants, fresh plums and kirsch scents plus wafts of tar, garrigue and forest floor. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly wound, offering great freshness and a firm frame of grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy. RP94 [JEAN-PIERRE MOUEIX Vineyards] An earthy/meaty nose of chargrilled meats, fertile loam, fungi and beef drippings over a core of blackberry preserves, cassis and pencil shavings plus a touch of tobacco.
