Made from Ribolla grapes which have been cultivated in this area for more than a thousand years. While fermenting in Georgian amphorae buried underground, it underwent a long maceration with grape skin(so called skin contact), with wild yeasts and no temperature control. After the drawing off and pressing phases the wine was poured back into amphorae for at least five more months before it started ageing in large oak barrels, where it was left for six years. Wine is bottled without fining or filtration. Cornelissen's MunJebel Rosso is 100% Nerello Mascalese from several of his Cru's including Zottorinoto-Chiusa Spagnolo, Feudo di Mezzo-Porcaria, Crasà, and Piano dei Daini. The average vine age is 60 years. The wine itself has a very aromatic nose with pretty aromas of wild cherry, ripe plum, dark berries, crushed rock dust, hibiscus, followed by smoke, earth and leather. Very flavorful with lots of red fruits, this has soft elegant texture backed by firm tannins that lead into the long finish. I like this wine today, but it ideally it will benefit from a year or 2 of bottle age, and can be enjoyed over the next decade. IWR92 [Magnum 1500ml] A sweet, open bouquet leads to dark red fruit, mint, spices and licorice in this pretty, nuanced Barolo. The 2008 is all about detail and understated finesse. It boasts breathtaking purity in its fruit and fabulous overall balance. A textured, finely-knit finish leaves a lasting impression. RP96+

Gianni Canonica produces stunning wines from only 1.5ha vineyards in Paiagallo and new in Grinzane Cavour. This Nebbiolo is from Grinzane Cavour. He has managed this vineyard in the same manner with his Paiagallo and wine-making as well. Rare item for Nebbiolo geeks.

Paiagallo is Giovanni Canonica's original vineyards. Gianni produces stunning Barolo from this vineyard. All the works are traditional and natural in the vineyards and cellar. The vineyard is totally free from herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. 40 days maceration, using only indigenous yeasts without any additives, vertical hand press, then aged in 20hl slavonian oak. Barolo enthusiast must experience this. Great vintage 2010. IL PARADISO DI MANFREDI produces 9,000 bottles annually between Brunello, Rosso and Riserva. These wines come from Sangiovese cru grapes in purity. There are 7 different parcels in the vineyards and mixture of all these parcels generates energy of wine. [Magnum] VA - This is a blend from 3 highest vineyards (=Vigne Alte): Tartaraci(1000m asl.), Monte Dolce(870m asl.), Pettinociarelle(890m asl.). It expresses beautifully the value and precision of the old vines, ungrafted Nerello Mascalese on the high terraces in the Northern valley of Mount Etna. The most Burgundian of all our crus. An extremely steep and terraced vineyard, beautifully exposed to sun and wind and right in front of mount Etna. The sandy clay soil and the old-vine Nerello Mascalese, planted in 1946, reach a richer and more powerfull expression, maintaining elegance. “Hermitage” of Etna. Nerello Mascalese 100% from 70+ years old vines. Production : 2,000 bottles/year [Magnum] PA - This pure Nerello Mascalese is produced from our old vine alberello cru Porcaria, situated at 640 m. asl. in the contrada Feudo di Mezzo. It has the power as well as refined elegance in the balanced vintages when everything falls into place. A complete wine. / PA is a simply gorgeous. Lovely aromatics of fresh cherries, rose petal and crushed stones, followed by fresh violets, exotic spices and hints of dark chocolate. This is a beautifully structured wine, with remarkable overall depth and focus. IWC95 Generally Barbera is recognised as casual wine, but a few producer can produce Barbera as a great wine. One of the top quality Barbera with long ageing potential. Please keep several bottles for the future.

This is 100% Nerello Mascalese from 60+ year old vines, and comes from a variety of different crus including Chiusa Spagnolo, Monte Colla, Porcaria, Barbabecchi, as well as other designated vineyards (Rampante, Piano Daini and Crasà). It has a gorgeous nose with aromas of dark cherries and raspberries woven together with dried herb, crushed stones, and fresh cut flowers. This is elegant and focused, with a vibrant core of fresh red fruit and mineral streaks across the palate. All of the beautiful flavors come together seamlessly in the vivid finish. IWR91 Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Riesling Italico are fermented separately and aged together. While fermenting in Georgian amphorae buried underground, it underwent a long maceration together with grape skin with wild yeasts and no temperature control. After the drawing off and pressing phases the wine was poured back into amphorae for at least five more months before it started ageing in large oak barrels, where it was left for six years. Wine is bottled without fining or filtration. Special sweet wine from botrytis grapes. - A selection of individual bunches of Ribolla grapes with noble rot, which were left to ripen on the vine for a long time and were harvested on Sunday 23rd November 2008, Thursday 12th November 2009 and Friday 15th November 2010. While fermenting in amphorae buried underground, it underwent a long maceration along with grape-stalks. Subsequently, it aged in small oak barrels and was bottled in July 2015 with no fining, no filtration.
