The essence of Fermier lies in Albariño. The 2023 El Mar, in particular, is excellent. From its early stages, it had a unique character distinct from both Spanish Albariño and the so-called Japanese wine style, but the 2023 vintage has been further refined. It features beautiful acidity, dense fruit juice, minerals, and nuances of loquat and citrus peel. The expression is very delicate in flavour, yet it has a substantial body.
Albariño from Echizenhama Niigata. Fermented in stainless tank with cold temperature to keep fresh acidity. This is a flagship of Fermier's Albariño.

The cuvée that was revived with the 2019 vintage is called Coteau du Houet. It was originally released as AOC Bonnezeaux. Since the vineyard was replanted, production as a single-vineyard wine had been interrupted. Until 2018, it had been blended into La Lune, but production resumed in 2019 under the name Coteau du Houet. While Bonnezeaux is typically known as a sweet wine made from botrytized grapes, Sansonnière’s Coteau du Houet is not that sweet. When the winery announced the 2019 vintage, it was described as sweet; however, upon tasting, it was not as sweet as expected. From 2020 onward through 2021, it seems to be leaning toward an even drier profile. This period coincides with the transition of winemaking initiative from father Mark Angéli to son Martial, so it may reflect Martial’s preference for producing drier wines.

It is made by blending Chenin Blanc primarily from crescent-shaped vineyards (from which the name La Lune is derived) with Chenin Blanc from other plots. It is the standard cuvée of La Ferme de la Sansonnière. Although it has been withdrawn from the AOC, it is regarded as an exceptional wine that embodies the unique character of the Anjou region. La Lune can be enjoyed immediately after release, but like the other cuvées, it has the ability to age for several decades.

The lieu-dit “Mainbey” is located on the other side of the small valley that separates it from the village of Fussey, at a high altitude of 470 meters. It is the biggest lieu-dit of the domaine, divided into three Chardonnay parcels and one Aligoté parcel. All of the Chardonnay parcels are in good health with modest vigor. The nose is complex, with floral notes and citrus. We find the same aromatic complexity on the palate, generous and fresh at the same time. Very textured with beautiful persistence. (by Chanterêves)

The lieu-dit “Bas des Ees” is located close to the village of Marey-les-Fussey. It is the closest parcel to the border with Hautes Côtes de Nuits but still on the side of Hautes Côtes de Beaune. It is surrounded by pastures and far away from the neighboring parcels. Given its high altitude of 470 meters, it is the last parcel we pick. This also explains its freshness and tension. Among the several plots, Les Fouchardes is a vineyard that can be called a true treasure. From the old vines planted in 1970, a dense and smooth, pure wine is born, woven from rich fruit flavors and minerals. The wines are aged for two years in barrels before bottling. This means it undergoes an aging period one year longer before release than La Lune. However, that does not mean it is ready to be enjoyed immediately. Its true value is revealed only after several more years of bottle aging. If you are fortunate enough to acquire a few bottles, we recommend drinking one first to gauge the optimal drinking window, and then carefully aging the rest.
|
Another Chenin Blanc wine is Les Fouchardes Monopole. These Chenin Blanc vines were planted in 1970. The wines are aged for two years in barrels before bottling. The 2018 vintage has 4.9 g/L residual sugar. The yield is 18 hl/ha, which is extremely low as usual.
|
This rich yet translucent, treasure-like wine is produced from an astonishingly low yield of only 17 hl/ha. It is released after aging for one year longer than La Lune. However, that does not mean it is ready to be enjoyed immediately. Its true value is revealed only after several more years of bottle aging. We believe that this 2017 Les Fouchardes Monopole is currently (in 2025) reaching its first peak.

[Mature Bottles Release] Clos de la Bergerie shares the same style as Coulée de Serrant and Vieux Clos, also containing botrytis. Among the three cuvées, Clos de la Bergerie is the richest, with a honey-like sweetness. Its full-bodied texture coats the mouth seductively, offering a sweet and long finish. This decadently luscious flavor can be said to embody the very essence of French aestheticism. Clos de la Bergerie belongs to the appellation Savennières Roche aux Moines.
