This charming château, embellished by a small tower, is located close to the church in the village of Pomerol. Acquired in 1917 by Mrs. Loubat, the then famous proprietor of PETRUS, the vineyard was owned by her niece, Mrs. Lacoste, for 40 years before she donated it to the Fondation de Foyers de Charité de Châteauneuf de Galaure in 2002.

The vineyard, with an average age of 35 years, is characterised by its soil diversity: rather loamy soil around the château itself and more gravelly and clayey on the best blocks near the church.

Farming the property since 1962, Ets. Jean-Pierre MOUEIX brings the usual care and expertise to the vineyard - entirely replanted after the 1956 frost - and to the cellar. After a gentle fermentation in concrete tanks, the young wine is aged in 33% new oak barrels.

Between elegance, power and smoothness, the wines of Château LATOUR show a perfect balance.

Grape varietals: Merlot - 90%, Cabernet Franc - 10%
Soil type: Gravelly, clayey (2/3), clayey silt (1/3)

The high point in the Mouieux portfolio this year is the 2019 Latour à Pomerol, a terrific wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, sweet berries, rose petals, cigar wrapper and loamy soil. Full-bodied, ample and concentrated, it's seamless and layered, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a vibrant, beautifully balanced profile. RP94

Made from 100% Merlot, the 2018 Latour à Pomerol has a deep garnet-purple color and a relatively understated nose of stewed plums, baked blackberries and redcurrant jelly, plus suggestions of unsmoked cigars, cloves and pencil shavings. The medium to full-bodied palate has a sturdy frame of chewy tannins and plenty of freshness supporting the earth and mineral-tinged red and black fruits, finishing long and savory. RP92

2016 Latour à Pomerol is a little reticent to begin, unfolding slowly to give glimpses of warm redcurrants, fresh plums and kirsch scents plus wafts of tar, garrigue and forest floor. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly wound, offering great freshness and a firm frame of grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy. RP94

Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix = JPM, is a Bordeaux négociant house founded by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1937, situated in Libourne. Jean-Pierre Moueix retired in 1978 and died in 2003. In 1991 his son Christian Moueix became president of JPM, while the grandson Edouard Moueix in the company since 2003.

JPM is famous and respected as a specialist of right bank among the wine-professionals. Exclusively or major part of top chateaux (ex : Lafleur, Gazin etc) are distributed by JPM. Besides, JPM owns and produces Trotanoy, La Fleur Petrus, Hosanna, Lagrange a Pomerol etc.

Especially, their old vintages have premium value. They have stored all the wines in the cellar in Libourne in perfect condition. Then wines are released after several years (sometimes after several decades). The direct allocation from JPM is considered as the best way to buy old vintages of right bank wines.

Chateau Petrus was managed by Christian Moueix since 1971, but he stated in 2008 his intention to distance himself from Petrus, limiting his role to that of a consultant.

Christian Moueix also owns the vineyards in Napa California, called
Dominus Estate which is recognised as one of the top California wine.
