In Burgundy, there are several 1er Crus that rival or even surpass Grand Crus, and knowledgeable enthusiasts diligently collect such wines. This 1er Cru Les Monts Luisants is one of those wines. The lieu-dit “Monts Luisants” forms part of the Grand Cru Clos de la Roche and is adjacent to the Grand Cru Latricières-Chambertin. It is easy for anyone to imagine that this is an excellent location. The genius judge of vineyards, Frédéric Cossard has been purchasing grapes from this vineyard for many years, and those grapes are crafted into wine with a genius winemaking sensibility. This is one of the highlights of his series of red wines from Côte de Nuits, such as Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny. [Mature Bottle Release]
This wine comes from the same source as the 1er Cru Monts Luisants. This is Cossard's first vintage producing the cuvée Les Champs de la Vigne. It has a seductive and complex aroma of ripe fruits and spices, with fine minerals. Remarkable transparency. This wine is approaching its optimal drinking window, but it still has room for further aging and development.
