Unusually for the Côte de Nuits, the lieu-dit Les Monts Luisants produces a small amount of white wine. Les Monts Luisants Blanc, the first release from Frédéric Cossard, is made from Chardonnay grown in the highest part of the vineyard. The rich fruit is supported by bright acidity and minerality, and as with Cossard’s other white wines, it is expected to require several years to reach its ideal drinking window. Production is limited to around 400 bottles. >>>More Info

In Burgundy, there are several 1er Crus that rival or even surpass Grand Crus, and knowledgeable enthusiasts diligently collect such wines. This 1er Cru Les Monts Luisants is one of those wines. The lieu-dit “Monts Luisants” forms part of the Grand Cru Clos de la Roche and is adjacent to the Grand Cru Latricières-Chambertin. It is easy for anyone to imagine that this is an excellent location. The genius judge of vineyards, Frédéric Cossard has been purchasing grapes from this vineyard for many years, and those grapes are crafted into wine with a genius winemaking sensibility. This is one of the highlights of his series of red wines from Côte de Nuits, such as Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny.
