Sancerre Skeveldra

Perfectly ripe 100% Sauvignon blanc from over 50 years vieilles vignes on Silex soil. Contains 50% botrytis, yield : 20hl/ha. 36 months ageing "sur lie". No SO2 added, bottled without fining and filtration.

From 50-year-old vines in St-Satur's silex soils and picked with 50% botrytis, the 2013 Sancerre Skeveldra displays a dark and cloudy pink-amber color and a deep, fresh and stony/crunchy bouquet with Pinot Noir wine aromas. It is very elegant, clear, fresh and vinous on the nose, with mushroom and sweet cherry aromas along with the purity of the terroir. Aged in stainless steel for 24 months and another 12 months in used oak, this is a dense, elegant and refined, very intense, long and strong Sancerre that drinks somewhere between a white and red wine. So, serve it neither too warm nor too cool, and enjoy its fabulous finesse combined with power, structure and intensity. Dried apricot aromas appear on the aftertaste. This is a highly sustainable Sancerre that is slowly reaching its maturity, but I'd still wait for another two years.




Sébastien Riffault cultivates his 12 ha vineyards biodynamically and vinification is totally free from SO2 and any other chemicals.

"Étienne et Sébastien Riffault" label has been produced since his father's generation. From the 30 years vieilles vignes on Argilo-Calcaire soil, fermented in a stainless tank(3 months) and aged for 24months "Sur Lie". This is a top quality Sancerre in modern style.

On the other hand, it seems Sébastien expresses much unique style with "Sébastien Riffault" labels. In fact, this is the original style of Sancerre. Sébastien has precisely revived Sancerre a century ago. These wines are made from perfectly mature grapes from old vines, and it contains botrytis. Aged in old barrels for long time, and bottled without fining and filtrations.

Its taste is out of standard of today's Sancerre, and the wine possesses impressive natural concentration and ripe fruits. Indeed, it is easy to understand why these wines are much sought-after from natural wine bars in Paris and fine and creative restaurants in the world. The wine has excellent sensitivity, full of energy and the soil is reflected straightly.
